HISTORY: (All information is gathered from the good ends for Karma's paths of both games, for simplicity's sake; variants from other timelines are fairly minor - such as death or not ending up in the romantic route with the player character.)
There were two extremely powerful crystals - the Crystallum Lucis that fed on love, happiness, and joy, which came to be wielded by the leader of the fairies, and the Crystallum Tenebrarum that fed off of fear, anger, and hatred, wielded by the leader of the witches. Although the witches had domain over the Tenebrarum, the witches were not evil. They helped maintain balance with the fairies over the humans. Until Hans Anderson wove his stories and lead humanity to believe that witches were purely wicked. This lead to mass persecution against witches, including their deaths. The Tenebrarum bearer felt each of these deaths as if they were her own, and this lead to her creating the FairyTale Curse, as well as her eventually striking down a human. She became corrupted and enforced her rule all acrost Angielle by becoming it's queen and bearing a child, Lucette, with the king. She forced Lucette to follow in her footsteps, manipulating her and her memories. But the queen was eventually overthrown and the kingdom returned to peace under its king. But the damage to Lucette was already done - Ice cold and as the heir to the Tenebrarum, a witch placed the Cinderella Curse on her, where she must do three good deeds before her eighteenth birthday in order to break it, in the hopes that she will not follow in her mother's footsteps.
Prior to Lucette's curse, Karma was raised as the crown prince of Brugantia. His father nicknamed him his little Chameleon, as he was so good at hiding away from his servants and responsibilities. Karma grew up with great looks and a charming personality, flaunting his looks, talent, and status wherever he went, and often seduced many women. He made the mistake of professing his love to a witch, only breaking her heart afterwards. To repay him for his womanising ways, she placed the Beauty and the Beast curse on him, making all women that were not witches, fairies, or cursed themselves fall in love with him if they see him in his male form. The only way to break his curse is for a woman to truly love him, no matter what form he takes, or else wait for the next Tenebrarum bearer to break it for him. He never told his family of his curse.
He ran away to Angielle to wait for the hopefully-benevolent rise of the new Tenebrarum bearer to break his curse for him. Shortly after arriving in Angielle, there was one whom he truly believed loved him as he truly loved her. Months passed. But when she saw the form his curse gave him, she ran away terrified. Karma thus believed there was no way anyone could love him through his curse. He donned a female disguise while he resides and works at the Marchen under the Lucis bearer Parfait. The Marchen is a place that evil can never find, where it appears as an abandoned building to those who cannot see it, and where the cursed can seek help to break their curses.
Lucette first sees Karma as a beautiful woman (henceforth marked as F!Karma, male will simply remain as Karma) as she and her step-sister are in the toy store. Even Lucette believes her beauty to be beyond compare. Though F!Karma acknowledges Lucette with a smile, the meeting is shortlived as F!Karma has to run more errands. There are rumours around Angielle that F!Karma is a fairy. On the first night of Lucette's curse, Karma jumps in to rescue her from two men trying to rob her for whatever little coin she has. When the men flee, both Karma and Waltz quickly escort Lucette to the Marchen, where she is expected to assist around the tavern in exchange for suitable living conditions while she breaks her curse.
Karma often strikes up conversation with Lucette, trying to get her to warm up to the idea of trying to do good deeds and help break her curse. When Rumpel, a man with amnesia and the Rumplestiltskin Curse, first sees F!Karma, he professes his undying love for the disguised man, causing a large wave of discomfort and Karma hits him. Karma immediately despises him, not just because he flirted with him, but because Rumpel flirts indiscriminately. Lucette then learns that Karma is actually a man. When Parfait suggests that Lucette get advice on how to perform good deeds, Karma is the first to jump on the suggestion, saying he gives the best advice. He proposes that Lucette start by smiling and to do something without strings attached. He also has her carry his bags as he runs errands as F!Karma in town.
After a scuffle with Rumpel, Lucette scolds him, which causes Karma to realise he's being overly harsh all because he's in a bad mood that day. Later on, Lucette learns that Karma helps to train Jurien and Garlan, two of Angielle's highest, former knights. He trains Jurien as F!Karma, since she is not immune to his curse. Lucette also learns it was Karma who rescued her the first night she was cursed. She later talks with Karma about love and learning that bluntness isn't easy for everyone, which makes it hard to confess even when they are obviously aching over it. The next time F!Karma and Lucette are running errands, F!Karma treats Lucette to a cupcake as thanks, and Lucette gets to learn a little about Karma's past, in which he adores the chameleon. When Karma's voice-changing potion fails, Lucette proceeds to tease him as he has to explain himself as "under the weather" to other townsfolk.
Another day when Lucette is running errands with Waltz, F!Karma ends up saving her from a man working with a witch to get Lucette back into the palace. When they return to the Marchen, Lucette goes to Karma's room, entering without knocking. Karma teases her for coming into a lady's room unannounced. She thanks him for the rescue, surprising many. Karma has her help him with his makeup. He promises her that he will never leave her alone like that again.
The next time Karma saves her, he claims that she is his wife to get the men away from her. His hand gets cut in the scuffle, but he succeeds in knocking them out and erasing their memories before they leave. Karma fails to notice the women who begin to swarm him, and Lucette repays the favour by getting him out of the crowd and back to the safety of the Marchen. With this, Lucette finally earns her first good deed. Lucette learns the truth about her mother and Karma tries to scour the town for information on the witch looking for Lucette. Lucette learns that Karma is the Lost Prince of Brugantia. The two decide to help Garlan confess to Jurien. Lucette asks for Karma to train her in the sword.
Not long after, Karma's temper starts to spark more often and he becomes unavailable as much as possible. Lucette, trying to cheer him up, buys him a gift. When she enters his room to give it to him, he lashes out at Lucette. He refuses to train anyone for the next several days, not even leaving his room except for patrols. When he realises the present, he eventually comes to talk to Lucette about it and apologises. He notices Lucette has completed her second good deed and offers her anything she wants, in which she asks for a hug. He complies, but the pain of his curse cuts it short and he pulls away. He tells Lucette not to worry and that he will always treasure her gift.
Later on, they learn that the king is making an announcement, one that ends with him resigning his crown to the head of his guard: Sir Alcaster. Lucette knows that her father never would and that he is clearly being forced to do so. Karma gets the crowd to start yelling and chanting, "There is only one king - King Genaro!" When they retreat to the Marchen, plans start formulating on how to rescue the king from being executed under the guise of a terminal illness. Karma regularly tries to gather information on the coup. When the rescue plan is formed, Karma tries to talk Lucette into staying behind where she will be safe. Lucette refuses, however, but promises to stay as protected by the others as she can. When the plans are finalised, they use the tunnels to get into the palace.
F!Karma's temper and pain flares back up, despite Lucette's concerns. F!Karma tells her that she would hate and be afraid of him if he knew the truth, but Lucette promises she wouldn't. But he says the other girl said that too, only for it to be a lie. Suddenly, the guards find their location and they are forced to hurry in their attempts to find the king and his queen. Karma continues to protect Lucette. A masked man, Varg, appears and kidnaps Lucette from the others. She's brought to the throne room, where the king is kept. Alcaster comes in, and they are told a magical beast is now storming the castle. As Alcaster goes to fight the beast, Varg releases Lucette, saying he's curious to see how this plays out.
The beast storms into the throneroom, following Lucette as she runs. But when Lucette is cornered by guards, the beast stands back to back with Lucette. It tells her, "Together," and they fight off the guards. However, one of the guards finds a vantage point and moves to strike the beast in the back. Lucette saves the beast and earns her third good deed, breaking her curse. The beast praises her, and shows her the rose locket she bought, revealing that the beast is Karma. He confesses his love for her, forlorn that no one could love a beast. But Lucette tells him she loves him, no matter what form he takes, breaking his curse in turn.
They rush back to the throne room, where Fritz is now battling Alcaster, and Varg is nowhere to be seen. Alcaster gains the upper hand and kills Fritz. Karma fights Alcaster back while Delora and Waltz come to the rescue. The king steps up to Alcaster and sentences him to death for treason, but will keep him locked away in prison until a trial can be conducted. As things quiet down and the castle begins to return to some semblance of normal after the events of the evening, Karma shares the specific details of his curse and how Lucette's love managed to break it. The king moves to mend his relationship with Lucette, promising her a better future. Karma helps explain Lucette's story of her curse to the king.
Afterwards, Karma has to return to Brugantia to explain everything to his father and resume his duties as crown prince, even if that means that Lucette has to stay in Angielle. But he returns for her eighteenth birthday, where he teases her by calling her his betrothed and that he wouldn't have minded walking in on her changing, all to see her blush. He tells her that the locket has become his most treasured possession because it is the first gift Lucette ever gave him. He tells her how, when he came to Angielle, he thought that if it wouldn't break his curse, it wasn't important. And then he met Lucette and all of that changed for him. He admits that she's his weakness and wants her to be safe forever. Together, they go to the dining hall to see the king.
In Evermore, Karma has stepped down from being the heir of Brugantia and becomes the heir of Angielle, as he and Lucette are betrothed and it is one week before Lucette's birthday. Karma is doing everything he can to shower his love with gifts. The one that brings up concerns in this book is when he gifts Lucette two expertly-crafted plushes: one of her as the beauty, and Karma's beast form as the beast with a crown on its head. Lucette asks if he still considers himself a beast, and he begins to become dodgy about the subject. After Karma's brother Lance (Llama) arrives, the concern that Karma showed with his gift becomes more and more apparent. As Lance asks for his assistance in practising his speech to accept the throne, Karma gets more agitated. When Lucette calls him out on it, Karma says he'll talk to her about the issue later and Lance's speech lessons are put on hold for the day.
As Karma begins to avoid Lucette, Lance challenges him in order to prove his own worth. The deal is that Lucette chooses the challenge, and Karma will tell her the truth afterwards. Lucette chooses sword fighting. When Lance leaves to prepare for the duel, Lucette brings to Karma's attention that she is aware that he's been pretending to be fine and that his negative emotions are infecting her with nightmares. He finally confesses that he's upset at both his and Lance's insecurities with Lance becoming the new heir to the throne in Brugantia. Karma has been struggling with Angielle's view on politics - whereas Brugantia sought to keep balance and peace, Angielle is more willing to go to war. Which makes Karma miss his old title, even if he wouldn't trade back for it because he loves Lucette so much. He also only wishes for his brother to succeed, and Lance's wavering makes him frustrated.
Despite the coming challenge, Karma buys a cherry-flavoured cupcake for Lance to show that he still cares about him. Lance aggressively attacks Karma, even after the match is over. Lance has lost, but is angry at Karma for always gloating and never having to put much effort into anything. However, not taking Lance seriously is the only way he has ever gotten Lance to talk about his feelings with him, and is thus why he continues to do things this way. When he storms off, Lucette tells him he needs to learn how to share his feelings before letting them boil down to a fight, just like Karma has needed to learn. After, Karma apologises for his jealousy to Lance and gifts him the cupcake. Karma talks Lance up to being a ruler - not to mimic Karma himself, but to be his own person when he becomes King. The two reconcile, and Lance is ready to become the crown prince of Brugantia.
Lucette and Karma are wedded a month after Lucette's birthday. Lucette throws a midnight ball, a celebration that is popular in Brugantia, for Karma. A song that Karma had composed for Lucette is played as they dance into the night. And their love lasted forevermore.
PAST GAME MEMORIES: N/A
PERSONALITY: What makes your character tick? Try to make this at least 500 words or three to four decent paragraphs.
POWERS/ABILITIES: SWORDFIGHTING: As Karma was raised as a prince, he is well-versed in swordplay and even excels at it. His abilities are so strong, that two of the formerly-highest royal guard ask for him to train them. His sword skills are almost unrivalled against all except magic. If he isn't distracted, and it is very difficult to distract him, it is extremely difficult to land any strikes on him. He is able to put distractions in the back of his mind, even if he looks distracted, and is able to remain fully attentive in combat.
BEAUTY: As he dresses up often as a woman, Karma has perfected fashion and makeup. He had learnt makeup from Delora. Lucette points out that if it ever came to light that Karma was a man in drag, he would be hunted down for putting other women's appearances to shame.
CHARM AND ELOQUENCE: Karma speaks elaborately and, though it sometimes can be difficult to piece together his exact meaning, does it with such a romantic flair. His speech, either as male or female, shows his care and people often adore him in some way or another. He is very capable at speaking to even large crowds.
FASHION AND MAKEUP: Due to crossdressing, Karma has obtained the ability to be exceptionally beautiful, and it is often reiterated that he puts other girls' looks to shame. He learnt makeup from Delora.
PIANO: Karma is extremely talented at the piano and plays beautifully.
CURSE: There is a rose tattoo on Karma's chest. At first, it is a rose with smooth, black branches woven around it. As he falls more and more in love, the tattoo grows more and more thorns that cause him physical pain. When his love reaches the zenith, he turns into a strong, powerful, black, wolf-like beast with red eyes. This can only be broken when the one who has earned his love returns that love; otherwise, if the person rejects him, his broken heart will eventually return him to his human form to start again.
GIFTED LEARNER: For the things that Karma
chooses to learn and not run away from, he is very adept at them and is able to stay atop the assignments given to him. He even says that he was able to skip lessons and still pass because he was naturally gifted at those lessons.
